Character Exercise.

Character Exercise
Technique - I want you to think about one of your close friends or family members and become them.  I would like for you to take on their characteristics, jump into their shoes (literally); and let their mannerisms, posture, and all that jazz take over. Let the soul of that human being become one with you.  Now, I want you to set up a scene where you get out of bed and get your character dressed for the day.

Scene study - I want you to choose a script and begin the character work.  Character work should mean something to you if you have worked your way into scene study by now.  If you are not that far into your craft, then start with the technique exercise above.  After you have done your work, set up a scene of you getting up in the morning and getting your day started.  Make your coffee or add your baileys, whatever it is that feels right.

You should be able to choose your own wardrobe.  Yes, there are people on set and it is their job to dress you and keep you looking good, or bad depending on what you are working on ... but this is your life. This is your job. You should be the most knowledgable person on set when it comes to your character.  Your life, your relationships ... and yes, your clothes.  Your clothes, just like your posture, says a lot about yourself and your lifestyle. Girls, if you are wearing high heels, how much more powerful do you feel compared to when you have on flats?  Guys how much more of a bad ass do you feel like when you are wearing boots instead of tennis shoes?  A fitted 3 piece suit instead of a t-shirt?  You should do the same for class.
